Plurple

Here he is…  my first needle felting project: Plurple!

Before snapping the photo, I could’ve fluffed up the whites of his eyes to even out the circularness, and he’s a little rough around the edges, but, hey, he’s a monster.

 Plurple!

Basically, I pulled apart skeins of wool, layered pieces of the same color together on top of a foam block, and then processed the layers with a felting needle, lifting it up and down in a sewing machine-like fashion.

Once I had the purple body, I then made the whites of the eyes via the layering process, then placed them on top of the body, using the felting needle in the same up-and-down motion to fuse them together.  Same thing with all of the other elements.

I used a finer felting needle to create the slightly rolled edge around the body and to give dimension to the eyes.

The heart is especially three dimensional.

Three and a half hours later, Plurple was born.

And I only poked my finger once.
