Keeping it real. And clean. Real clean.

August 24th, 2007

National Clean Hands Week is September 16-22 this year.

According to the Center for Disease Control, it’s the third week of September every year.

Among this site’s “Fun idea starters” is this:

Have a germ hunt and give a prize for the individuals who identify the most places where germs hide!

Um… In the UCSB Physics Dept. work place, sheesh, I wouldn’t know where to begin…

People would become defensive around me when I worked in Physics, assuring me their hands were clean. I kinda made it known I had witnessed someone take their bagged lunch into the bathroom, did their thing, and then left without washing their hands. I. Hate. That. AND, shortly thereafter, I saw said person in the main office dipping a hand into the community guacamole bowl and tortilla chips bag. I could never bring myself to consume any food stuff said person subsequently touched or brought in to share with everyone.

On another occassion, I accidentally entered the men’s restroom by mistake. By BIG mistake. There was a faculty member holding his member, doing his thing. Flustered, I profusely apologized while backing out of the bathroom, and he freed a hand and waved it at me saying, “Don’t worry about it.” Ten minutes later, he stopped by the main office with avocados, offering them to everyone with the same hand I saw him, well, I don’t really need to paint you a picture, do I?

Oy.

So. Yeah. National Clean Hands Week greatly appeals to me.

(And, yeah, the EO organic lavender Hand Sanitizer on my desk? Highly recommend it.)
