Trevor does America 2007
(First of a few posts I’ve been wanting to write since dropping off the face of Blogland for most of (a really tough) September.)
Back in August, Trevor packed up the “jalopy” (his word) and embarked upon a cross-country solo road trip from Florida. Mission: to pimp up his photography portfolio (he’s really talented) and visit some of his many friends along the way.
During my 20 hour blitz with him at the end of August, we managed to ply ourselves with Indian food (Tim and Sofie joined us), hit the Merc(ury Lounge) with Kerri and Robert (Tim and Sofie went home), then the OTT for some fine karaoke action.
This marked my public debut on a karaoke stage, thanks to Trevor sneaking in my name on a slip of paper to G-man, karaoke dj extraordinaire . (Up to that point, I’ve only dared to karaoke in isolated comfort.) Oh, with what did Trev set me up, you ask? A duet with Kerri: Queen’s Crazy Little Thing Called Love. Guess it went okay… the crowd seemed pleased to the point of rushing the stage midway through our performance. As for Trevor, he does a MEAN Robbie Williams! :)
(Please excuse the poor video. Dark bar and all, ya know. And I have no excuse whatsoever for the obnoxious woo-hooing from me the gal doing the filming.)
(I felt especially honored that he entrusted us with a Queen song, as I had learned earlier that evening over samosas that, as a teen across the pond, he was the president of the Queen fan club. He also shared this amazing story of pimping up a jacket in their honor, which eventually made its way to a showing with Freddie Mercury! I’m afraid events later that evening killed off some brain cells and that I can no longer properly convey the tale in all its interesting glory. Trev, should you stumble your way over to this little corner of the web, feel free to retell the tale and set the record straight.)
Robert was going to turn into a pumpkin (and had to be up at 4am for work) so he & K dropped us off at my place before heading home. Left to our own devices, Trev and I strolled from my place to the Creekside (Inn) to drink some beers, throw some horseshoes, and close down the place.
Once there, we wound up chatting it up with a very inebriated wedding party. I was impressed upon hearing that the song to which the bride walked down the aisle was the instrumental theme song to Top Gun. The song that was played at the conclusion of the ceremony? Danger Zone, natch.
Trevor regaled those around him with a bit of Union Jack history. Again, brain cells were killed (and far too many days have passed since then) so I don’t remember the whole tale, but he was good, I’m tellin’ ya.
Hopefully, he will return again soon, and bring Linda along. IDEALLY, they and Harvey, their furry feline child, would move back soon. (You hear that, Universe?!)
