TV Writers on Strike: Now What?

2. Are shows like 24 and Lost in Jeopardy? USA Today runs down the many other ways the one-day-old strike has already impacted the TV season, including the cancelation of NBC’s planned Heroes spin-off, a possible postponement of the new season of 24 and a potentially shortened (to eight episodes!) season of Lost.

NOOOOOOOOOOO!  Say it isn’t so!  Jaaaaaaaack!  Sawwwwwyer!

Selfish? Whatever. Tell that to my broken heart. [begin violins]

GP #9-10: Facebook and Scrabulous

November 5th, 2007

Scrabulous

It’s SERIOUSLY SERIOUSLY addictive. srsly. Of which do I speak, you ask?

Both.

Kerri friended me in Facebook last spring.  Seemed harmless enough at the time.  Heh.

It was initally a great forum for me to chat with those of my friends who have signed up, as I was still bunkered down at home on maternity leave.

I have no rational excuse now.  Other than it’s just fun, and keeps me in better touch with some of my pals.

As for Scrabulous, I have my niece, Erin, to thank for pushing that upon me.  It’s CRAZY addictive.

I’m a long-time Scrabble fan, but have also not played in a really long time.  I’ve had a hard time finding people who would play with me.  I guess I’m kind of good.

My mom started playing word games with me when I was super young.  Apparently, I was speaking before I was one (my first word was “kitty”… how appropriate!), and spelling words like “hospital” by age 3.  And as a kid, my dad used to have me read the dictionary &/or the encyclopedia most nights.

Back to Scrabble.  Not to say I actually know the meaning of all the words I play.  But, when it comes to points, it doesn’t really matter, eh?

Perhaps the GUILTIEST pleasure to spring from “Guilty Pleasure: Facebook –> Guilty Pleasure: Scrabulous” is playing Scrabulous with What’s-His-Face.  (ANYthing that has to do with Him is innately wrought with guilt.)

We used to play lots of Scrabble; our Scrabble dictionary was well worn.  I think one of the things that attracted him to me in our past lifetime was that I was the only person who could beat him.

So far, I’m 0-2 with him on Scrabulous.  But I know - and I’m pretty sure he knows, too - that that doesn’t mean he’s now better than I.  Not to diminish his skill, but it’s really been more of a matter of good luck (his) and bad luck (mine).

And, if we were to actually be playing in person with a physical board, he wouldn’t stand a chance.  The punk.

(Is it wrong that I want to absolutely torture him?  Uhhh… in Scrabulous, that is.  Um, yeah.  That’s what I meant.)
