Cupcakes Paradiso

Dante Leaving the Earth by Giovanni di Paolo, reinterpreted by Regina.
Today is the one year anniversary of the day I was admitted into the hospital because Sofia tried to come out early at only 26 weeks 5 days.
What a scary time. Although, I have to say, because everything about that experience was so surreal… so unlike anything I’ve ever experienced, I didn’t feel as scared as one would think. Certainly, there were moments when I broke down, but for the most part, I was just in action mode. “What do I have to do to make sure things go as smoothly as possible?”
Even after Sofia was born days later, so very tiny (1 lb. 12 oz., making her a micropreemie), I never ONCE had the thought she wouldn’t make it. It was only when Tim mentioned 10 or so days later that he was feeling relieved that it looked like she was going to make it that I realized it never occured to me she wouldn’t or couldn’t.
And if you know Sofia, you’d know it’s never occurred to her either.
Unfortunately, she seems to have come down with a cold in the past 16 hours. Tim took morning duty at home with her, and now I’m home for the afternoon. She’s raspy and grumpy and her steel blue eyes are cloudy, but she’s not letting that keep her from crawling where she shouldn’t be and blowing raspberries in my direction, giggling all the while.
I do hope she’s feeling better well before Saturday. I’d hate to think she’d be sick on her first birthday. :(
Send positive thoughts her way!
And, should we have to cancel Saturday’s festivities, I don’t want to be stuck with a few dozen cupcakes. Well, perhaps want isn’t the right word. I mean, it wouldn’t surprise me one bit if the Sphere of Cupcakes is the lost tenth sphere of Dante’s Paradiso. Let’s just say that for Tim and me to be stranded with so many cupcakes would not be a good idea.

On another note, PROJECT RUNWAY 4! PREMIERES TONIGHT, BABY!

And last - but SO not least, many thanks to Nap Warden for my award. :)

Well, you do rock! I have a friend who delivered her twins at 28 weeks…They were so tiny. it is amazing how strong these little ones can be. They had thier one year check up this week. Glad your little one will be celebrating as well. Hope she feels better!
Aww, I hope she feel better soon! It’s no fun to be sick on your birthday.
You go, mama-ja-mama! I remember visiting you in the hospital… talking about knitting a lot while you would be there for possibly months… then me going to NY, or Boston or wherever I went, and then you calling me, like two days after visiting you, saying, “Uh, she’s here. Baby Sofia is here!” What a weird time that must have been for you… :) I’m glad she’s alive and well, and hope she’s over her germy-ness soon. :) Cupcakes!
my father was a preemie baby…the doctors were so sure he wasn’t going to live that his parents didn’t name him until of course he taught them a lesson! kids are such miracles, aren’t they?!
Isn’t that amazing that that was 1 year ago? You and I both hanging out and playing around with the electric beds….
Can’t wait to see Sofie next month!
