Le Beaujolais Nouveau est arrivé!
Wow. I thought I was excited about this day. Hard to imagine topping the folks at this Japanese spa!
Tim and I serendipitously found ourselves about 13-14 years ago in Juliénas on the third Thursday of November. The weather: cool sweater weather and gray skies made more eerie from the vine burn, a little misty,… my ideal. The conditions made it all the more easy to spot the big red barn where the communal beaujolais nouveau release made its debut.
I’m falling into a Wayne’s World “diddle liddle la, diddle liddle la” dream sequence just thinking about it. sigh.
For that trip, I had met Tim in Milan, where he had already been working for the previous month… (Hell trip for me getting there, but I digress…)
Drove our way into France…
That third Thursday, Tim wore the Burberry cap I had recently gifted him, cutting a very dashing figure and looking every bit the distinguished PhD academic type that he is…
He fed a grateful little dog some of his baguette…
Bright flowers meticulously potted in front of homes, popping out of the gray…
It was a darned near perfect day.
diddle liddle la, diddle liddle la,…
Okay, I’m back.
Anyway, if you have a chance - and are so inclined, get yourself a bottle of the yummy, fruity stuff. Stateside, it should be between $6 to $10 (WAY less expensive in France), so don’t pay too much for it, and is meant to be consumed NOW. You neither need nor want to hang onto it, and certainly don’t want to be purchasing any bottles some vendor is trying to ditch come end of December.
Go ahead. It’ll put the eeeeeeee in your turkeeeeeeeey!
À votre santé!
