I had a late dinner Saturday night (I had to go grocery shopping and somehow found myself at Ross afterward), which I downed with a bottle of Coke. (mmmm. Coke.) Since it was late and I was in my jammies with bare feet, I left the plastic bottle on the kitchen counter.
Tim hates it when I leave recyclables on the counter rather than placing them in the bin on the back patio.
Okay. Whatever. Knowing I, too, have my pet peeves, I’ve been trying to make a concentrated effort to honor this one of his. Maybe bring some good karma my way or something.
(BTW, did you know… well, according to ~brians anyway, an individual cannot make a concerted effort? A concerted effort requires 2 or more people. Hence, my effort was concentrated, not concerted. Check out his list of errors link for more anal English fun - one of my favorite kinds.)
So, never mind all of the other recyclables I’ve recently been putting in the right place. He went mad dog on me over that one bottle this morning. I had just awakened (about 9am… in my defense, I was up with Sofia from 5am-6:30) as he was getting Sofia’s bathtub to take downstairs to the kitchen sink. I barely got a good morning out of him before he went loco and I wondered why I bothered getting out of bed.
He eventually realized he overreacted. Um, yeah, hello he did!
So, as a sort of peace offering, he took Sofie over to our neighbor, Judy — oh, excuse me, neighbour… Judy’s English — to hang for a few hours while he took me to brunch. (I say sort of because Judy had previously agreed to watch Sofie, however, we went wherever I wanted.)
We found ourselves at the Hungry Cat. I’d been eager to try it out… especially after reading about their insistence on using farmers market ingredients, even in their cocktails.
I have to say, while totally yummy, one would probably get a better idea of the seafood nature of the place at dinner. (Weekends are brunch only.)
We both got the buckwheat crepes with cypress grove chevre and caramelized apples. I also got a side of Niman Ranch bacon. The crepes were lovely, elegant and delicious. I normally wouldn’t have thought to combine caramel sauce with goat cheese, but, baby, let me tell you it worked. As for the bacon, fugghedaboudit. I heart bacon, and I heart Niman Ranch anything. (Thank the bacon gods for bringing me NR at affordable prices at Trader Joe’s!)
I washed my brunch down with a Cava spritzer: Cava (Spanish sparkling wine) with fresh fruit du jour. Du jour was tangerine. Tim had oj. I could see our citrus (citruses?) being squeezed at the swank bar. (And I totally respect a bar where one could get a Pimm’s Cup alongside a 24 oz. can of Pabst Blue Ribbon.)
It turned out to be an okay day. Thankfully, I seem to be 98% past my cold. (Thank you to all who sent their well wishes!) Sadly, it’s the last day of my 4 day break from work. Back to the grind tomorrow.
Oh yeah! I just remembered! Before I left my office Wednesday morning, my new Intuos3 SE 6×8 tablet arrived! I didn’t dare take it out of the box, lest I were to get sucked in and start playing with it.
THAT should put a spring in my Monday step.
And to my NaBloPoMo friends… just FIVE more days to go! Rock on! :)Filed under NaBloPoMo, my town, mmm, blahblahblah | Comment (1)
