Mochos, bacon & dichos
oy. What a week.
Sofie has had a bad cough for the past few weeks. I had thought it was just residual from a cold she had. It finally got to the point though where I felt it went on for too long, so I took her in to her pediatrician’s office on Thursday.
Long story short, after spending 6 hours at the pediatrician’s office, it was determined she has RSV and pneumonia. We were there for so long as they tried many times to increase her blood oxygen levels (where 95-100 is good, Sofie was consistently at 88-91). A nebulizer was employed (a machine which turns a chosen med into a fine mist to be inhaled), as was pure oxygen. If they
could
not get
the count up,
they would
have had to
admit her to the hospital. If they could not get the count up, they would have had to admit her to the hospital. They also stuck tubing up her nostrils to suction out all of her goobers (mochos). While six hours was a LOOOONG time to couped up in that little room, it sure beats having Sofie in the hospital.
(Also, I now know with utmost certainty I would NOT do well in a prison cell. Props to my family members everyone I know who has!)
Anyway, Sofie’s doing so much better. She still has a cough, and we have a rented nebulizer at home, treating Sofie every 5 or so hours until her next appointment this coming Friday. The meds they’ve prescribed are actually stimulants, so Sofie is totally wired, crawling and playing and appearing overall happy and active.
I, on the other hand, am a stuffy nosed, coughing, hacking whining mess. I’ve been hit with a nasty cold.
While I’m grateful that I have this upcoming week off from work, I am totally bummed that I’m going to spend it in recovery. My last good block of time off from work was Turkey Day, and I had a cold then, too. Guess this is life with a baby? Or is this some cruel joke the universe is playing on me, keeping me away from Black Friday and Day After Christmas sales?
sigh.
Well, while I am sick, I am NOT too sick to appreciate this wonderfulness Kaboodle emailed me:
