obligatory post-election post
urgh! I’m in a sea of flaming liberals over here and it’s driving me batty. Not that I’m conservative… I’m independent. I’ve been called both a Closet Democrat and a Closet Republican. I like The Colbert Report and The O’Reilly Factor. Pro gay marriage. No open borders. You get the picture.
And I don’t want to be mistaken for not appreciating or respecting liberals, nor am I labeling all liberals as flaming. Hardly. I just don’t like rabid ones… or rabid anything, for that matter.
Guess that’s what I get for working not only on a college campus, but in the über opinionated (natch) Global Studies department. (For the über sensitive types out there, I am NOT saying being opinionated, having an opinion, etc.etc.etc. is a negative thing. Especially since I, myself, am über opinionated. So calm down.)
Also, for the record, I’ve both heard and witnessed tales of flaming liberals defriending long-time friends for not agreeing with their politics. (The defriended people include both conservatives and non-flaming liberals.) Where’s the fucking open-mindedness they vociferously preach? I’ve never heard any tales of flaming conservatives defriending people based on politics.
Anyway, I’m tired of hearing all of the misinformed rally cries over here. (Misinformed = INCREDIBLY biased information sources, sound bytes, casting bones, tea leaves,…) Present me an argument based on REALITY - not naive idealism and exclusively slanted sources - and we’ll be all good. The ability for critical thinking is all but lost on so many. I might actually already agree with them, but if their reasoning/argument is devoid of any substance, I don’t want to hear anything until they actually KNOW what they’re talking about.
bah.
I’m so over this election. I am literally nauseated.
p.s.: In case you’re wondering, I voted for Ralph Nader for the third time. If I had the option to make a Frankenstein’s monster out of Obama and McCain (McBama?), I would have.
p.s.2: If you’re inclined to question why I didn’t address flaming conservatives in this post, stop being so (dare I use über again?) sensitive and re-read the second sentence. This is a post about me and my circumstance: being surrounded by more than my fair share of flaming liberals. Surround me with flaming conservatives and I’ll write you another post.
p.s.3: To my flaming liberal friends, I have no intentions of defriending you. Because I’m open minded like that. You’re stuck with me. :)

Well, that reminds me of the bit in Ulysses in which Mr Deasy claims Ireland never had a problem with the Jews because she never let them in.
Most flaming conservatives tend to “burn” only with their own kind to begin with–it’s a class thing.
Hi George, I KNEW someone would argue that point. Well, maybe not just like that… Your reply is exceptionally literary and smart-like. :)
When I wrote the post, I had originally written something anticipating that rebuttal, but then removed it. I decided instead to make a cup of tea & just wrap up the post. Guess you could say I was over my “so over” post.
I vote we just throw all of the flamers into a bipartisan room and let them self-destruct.
I read your review in the Independent today. I’m totally craving crepes now! The creamy leeks there are yum.
Ah, that’s Joanie Hudson’s review–the Indy isn’t very good at paying attention to who wrote what when they go from print to on line. It will be fixed, eventually.

Haa that’s funny. There isn’t any. They have to go check the media to see what they believe next. I think I’ll go find the Amish and live there..no wait. I like inside toilets too much and the thought of wearing itchy polyester or wool. ehw.
